Belly Piercings – History and Popularization
Belly piercings are one of the most popular piercings around. Also known as navel piercings, these can be adorned with many different types of beautiful jewelry pieces which can range of traditional to modern and dainty to bold. Although the exact origin of belly piercings is not known, most believe that they come from the Spanish ethnicity and probably originated on the island of Puerto Rico.
Popularization of belly piercings
Although a subject of much fascination for years, belly piercings gained worldwide media and public attention when the 1993 Aerosmith music video for their song “Cryin’” hit the screens. In the video, Alicia Silverstone has her navel pierced. It also played a major role in pop culture after popular singer Britney Spears’ navel piercing appearance.
